LAKE NONA – The Nona FC Longhorns will look to get back to winning ways when they host Brevard SC for the second time this season on Tuesday, June 3, at Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.
The Black and Orange (2-1-0, Southeast Division) return to action after an eight-day break, the longest gap from play that they will have this season. Tuesday’s contest will represent the first game of five in a fifteen-day span for Nona. A rematch of the season opener is on the cards, with the Longhorns looking to build on their 2-0 home victory last time out, sealed by a Bernardo Monteiro free kick and an Andre Navas finish.
“I think the break was good; it was very positive based on the loss that we had. We could work on something different, work on situations in the game that we were not ready for before, and now I believe that we are ready as we go into the biggest part of our season. I think we feel very confident and positive about tomorrow.”
BRUNO JAEGER NONA FC HEAD COACH
Before the break, Nona fell to northern opponents Sporting Club JAX in the rain after a long delay, 2-1. Joey Mueller’s and Ethan Newsome’s goals sandwiched Monteiro’s equalizer at the start of the second half to deliver JAX the victory. The Longhorns currently hold second place in the Southeast Division standings with six points to their name after three games played.
Brevard SC (1-3-1, Southeast Division) have seen mixed fortunes since falling in the season opener, most recently tying Brooke House FC 1-1 at home on May 31. The Fire claimed their lone win of the campaign so far when they took down Sporting Jax 3-0 at home on May 19. They currently sit in fourth place in the Southeast Division standings on four points after five games played.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. BREVARD SC
Nona FC improved its already-perfect record against Brevard SC to open the season, with the Longhorns now sitting at 7-0-0 against the Fire. The Black and Orange will look to continue to build upon its +26 goal difference and take three points from the Fire for the second time this season.
Johan Magaña leads the Fire in goals this season with two, and both came in his last two appearances in a 4-1 loss to Inter Gainesville and a 1-1 draw with Brooke House FC. Brevard has scored the same number of goals as Nona this season, suggesting that Tuesday’s contest could see goals aplenty.
