LAKE NONA – Following a dominant display in the season-opening 2-0 victory against Brevard SC on Wednesday, Nona FC prepares for its first test away from home this season as it travels to Brooke House FC on Wednesday, May 21.
The Longhorns (1-0-0, Southeast Division) will have the chance to claim six points out of six for the first time since 2022 when they participate in the third edition of the Orlando Derby.
The first three points of the season arrived on Tuesday, May 13 in Kissimmee as Bernardo Monteiro’s free kick in the 30th minute opened the season’s account for the Black and Orange. The assister for the first became the scorer for the second when Andre Navas’ shot in the 36th minute beat the opposing goalkeeper with a pass from Takuto Nishide.
Defensively, Nona FC kept its first clean sheet both at home and in any match for the first time since last year’s home bout with Wednesday’s opponents.
The clean sheet also marks center-back Mason Lamb’s first as club captain.
Brooke House FC (1-0-0, Southeastern Division) defeated Brevard SC 2-1 in its home opener with the winning goal in the 88th minute after Joseph Street’s long throw fell to Finlay Prain in the box, leading to a volley that rifled into the roof of the net.
Nona’s Orlando Derby opponents are the only other team in the Southeast Division to have a scoring average of 2.00 goals per game so far this season.
“They will make it difficult for us; it’s a difficult place to go and play away. We need to take our chances when they come.”
MASON LAMB NONA FC TEAM CAPTAIN
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. BROOKE HOUSE FC
Nona FC and Brooke House FC have only crossed paths twice before, when they hosted each other once each last season. The Black and Orange have never lost to their Orlando opposition, sharing the points in last year’s season opener 0-0 at Showalter Field, and taking the rematch 3-0 at Austin Tindall Sports Complex. Nona FC midfielder Pedro Lameiras scored the third goal off the bench for the Longhorns last time out in the victory, marking the second ever bench-to-bench connection for a goal in Nona FC history when Lameiras finished fellow substitute Julian Kennedy’s assist.
